In the middle of a week long shoot on an island, the very fragile mini SDI connectors broke. We resorted to using HDMI coming out of our F3, but we preferred the SDI connection. Upon returning, I sent the Shuttle to Blackmagic and they repaired it for free. Yay!

Because those things are so precariously located and fragile, I’m looking for a way to protect them. Anyone have a good way? Perhaps there is some sort of “roll cage” that someone makes. Something that “holds” the SDI cable and takes the brunt of any bump. I’ve seen something similar for DSLRs with the fragile miniHDMI connector.

Try Perihelion design. Also strap the cable to the top of the Hyperdeck and secure it with Gorilla tape (Not GAFFER TAPE). That way it will take the stress off the connector. I’ve expeienced the same thing with those pesky connectors.
