  Ultrastudio Express, FCP7, iMac 27″ playback issues

  Hi all – just got the iMac installed. Having dropped frame issues when playing any timeline when the Ultrastudio Express is plugged in. Using FCP7, latest drivers from Blackmagic and 10.8.2.

  Tried using FCP set up for 1080i59.94 Prores HQ and also 720P30 Varicam with appropriate footage. I also got dropped frames just playing color bars from any of these timelines.

  Turning off video out to the Ultrastudio doesn’t fix the issue. Only unplugging the device seems to do it.

  Haven’t seen these issues in FCPX, Premiere or Symphony.

  Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

  Update – when I set the audio output to “built-in” in FCP7, there are no dropped frames. However, when audio follows video out of the Ultrastudio, that is when I see lots of dropped frame errors.

  Curious if anyone else out there has seen this. Thanks again!

  I’m having a similar issue with ultrastudio mini monitor. I downgraded to Desktop Video 9.6.8 and it seems to stop dropping frames. I used the uninstaller before I downgraded. Let me know if that works for you.

  Thanks, Jesse! I’ll try it out and see how it goes. Have you or anyone else reading this laid off to tape with the mini monitor (or an Ultrastudio Express)?

  I have an online session coming up in a few weeks and need to output a 1080p23.98 timeline to HDCAM or possibly HDCAM SR.

  Did some tests and unfortunately it’s still dropping frames when playing audio out of the Blackmagic in FCP7 with the earlier driver. 🙁
