Why would Intel need a license from Apple, Thunderbolt technology is owned by Intel.

Thunderbolt was developed by Intel and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple. It was introduced commercially on Apple’s updated MacBook Pro lineup on February 24, 2011, using the same connector as Mini DisplayPort. Though the Thunderbolt trademark was registered by Apple, full rights belong to Intel which subsequently led to the transfer of the registration from Apple to Intel.[3]

Not as simple as a controllercard but it will, for shure, be incorporated in the future high-end motherboards 🙂

    Hi,

Just an update on this. At IBC we announced that the Intensity Shuttle and Intensity Extreme have been certified for ThunderBolt on Windows, and I expect more will be certified soon. You can read the press release here.
