Capturing to Prores using Multibridge Pro and Media Express
I read this in the info about the newest version of media expres: “Apple ProRes, DVCPRO and MJPEG capture and playback support.”
I updated to Media Express 3.03. I don’t see any options anywhere to capture using Prores. Is this something that’s only an option on a mac or something?
I also keep reading stuff about setups and easy setups. I have no idea what this means… Are there extra settings or setups I need to install or create to do this?

Hi Nick,
You are correct. ProRes is an Apple codec, and to my knowledge can only be encoded on Mac systems. The DVCPro support is also only included in Media Express on Mac when you have Final Cut Pro installed on the same system.
On Windows we have Uncompressed 8 and 10 bit YUV 4:2:2, Uncompressed 10 bit RGB 4:4:4 for use with RGB input signals, as well as Motion JPEG and DPX.
Easy Setups are a Final Cut Pro feature. But all the important settings in Media Express are included in the Edit->Preferences panel.

Which codecs are available in Linux?
The product page on Black Magic Design’s web site is not at all clear on which codecs are supported on which platforms.
Is there some place that details all of the specs on Media Express?

On Linux, Media Express offers 8bit uncompressed AVI, 10bit uncompressed AVI, MJPEG AVI, and DPX.
If you want to capture to a different format on linux, you can use something like bmdcapture (https://github.com/lu-zero/decklink-ffmpeg/network), where you can pipe it to ffmpeg and encode to anything ffmpeg supports encoding that your system is powerful enough to handle in real time.
Kdenlive also supports decklink now if you prefer something with a GUI. (https://www.kdenlive.org/)

I was able to capture using ProRES by doing a workaround install of the ProRES codec using unpak. No need to install Final Cut More info here: https://goo.gl/r0TqQA
