Device to capture SD from SDI
Posted by John Pucci on September 16, 2010 at 5:07 pmHi,
Does Black Magic make a product that will convert the output from a Sony PMW- EX1 SDI out to SD for recording in SD while shooting?
Thanks,
John

UpDownCross— $495
Mini Converter UpDownCross provides an easy way to convert between SD and HD video formats as it includes a full up, down and cross conversion, as well as full NTSC/PAL standards conversion. Works at the highest 10 bit SDI video quality, with superior multi tap image filtering and processing.

Are there any test reports or User Reviews that you are aware of?
I am particularly interested in the quality of the SD down conversion.
Also,
Is it possible with this device to monitor the output from the HD SDI of the camera via HDMI to an external field monitor while recording in SD at the same time?
Thanks,
John

“Hi John,
No, Mini Converter UpDownCross has SD/HD-SDI outputs. You can daisy chain 2 converters together if you need to get the required outputs. For example, Mini Converter SDI to HDMI to get your HDMI monitoring, and then send the loop out to the UpDownCross to get your SD-SDI output for recording.

Rather than daisy chain two devices would the Broadcast converter work for what my requirements are?
Or would your SDI to HDMI mini converter work in conjunction with your H264 Pro recorder:

I am looking for high quality SD hardware conversion
