An Alternative to a videohub

Does anyone know of an alternative product to the 16 port videohub with the same functionality but slightly more ports?

that’s the beauty of this product.
it is filling a gab in matrix product’s
i guess you will not find a product that is so cheap so easy to use and to setup and so made for post production facilities then this.
can you make a setup which works like a videohub . of coarse buy products from GVG,PESA,Nvision,leitch make a multilevel setup buy some panels or let specialist write a application. but it will never be this cheap and this easy to install.greet

boy, are you in for a surprise, when you research this. The price of the Blackmagic Videohub is so insanely cheap (yes, Blackmagic is crazy) that you are NEVER going to find a router in this price range that has “a few more ports”. When AJA releases their routers at NAB 2010, they will also be 16×16 (and I don’t think they will have RS422 control). You can get the router that I ALWAYS put in – the Broadcast Videohub. This is 72×144, and has a street price of $13,000. Now, you are saying -“well, I dont’need 72×144, and I don’t want to spend that much money”. Well, it’s my advice to you that you GIVE UP NOW, because you are NOT going to find a 32×32 HD-SDI router for $6000 – stop dreaming (unless Blackamagic releases it).
Other fine low end routers from from Kramer (owner of Sierra), but their largest HD-SDI router is 16×16, and cost more than the Blackmagic.
If you go to the experienced companies that make larger routers than 16×16, they cost A LOT MORE MONEY than Blackmagic, and you might as well spend the $13,000 for the Blackmagic Broadcast Videohub. These fine companies include Sierra Video Systems, Utah Scientific, Miranda (who now owns Nvision), Pesa, ProBel, Grass Valley, BTS,
Evertz, and Harris (Leitch). And there are others, and they all cost DRAMATICALLY more. And no, Knox does not make an HD-SDI router.So guess what, you will buy the Blackmagic router (if you want a low price router), or if you want to spend ZERO money (well, some money), you can install Video Patch bays (Canare makes the least expensive ones – around $700 for a 2×24), and patch. This is what most of my clients do anyway.

I already have 2 videohubs and I know just how good they are. Looks like I’m shelling out 13k then.

even though I am not a huge Kramer fan, I do use their products a lot. I was wrong – the largest HD-SDI router they make is 8×8 (and the company they bought – Sierra Video, makes the “inexpensive” Lassen series that offer 16×16 and 32×32). None of these (Sierra or Kramer) come standard with RS422, and you can’t control the “control panel crosspoints) on your MAC, like you can on the Blackmagic.
But the point of me writing again, is the price. This is the price of the 8×8 Kramer HD-SDI matrix router – from the https://www.markertek.com catalog, which is a discount catalog –

So NO ONE can compete with Blackmagic in this market now. (Well, maybe AJA, but their router ain’t out yet). Currently, there are no other choices. Not at this price range.
