  • Weird SDI drop-out issue – BMD HD EXtreme 3

    Hello,

I’ve just got anew MAC PRO (2x 2.26GHS 8GB RAM) and I also purchased a BMD HD Extreme 3. All installed and seemingly fine, but I’ve just coe across a weird issue when trying to digitize from DigiBeta using SDI.

In FCP 6.0.5 I open the batch capture window and hey presto I have sound and picture preview fine, but then the sound and picture begins to drop out to black. The odd thing is if I just touch the BNC conector on the back of the card picture and sound are restored. This suggested a bad cable or connector so I’ve tried up to eight cables (2 brand new) that rules out that. I tried to re-seat the card in the Mac (Slot 4 as advised by installation) still same problem. Again even if I just very lightly touch the BNC it is fine. Seems like some kind of odd grounding issue.

Using Component works fine for now, but I’m really puzzled and wondered if anyone else had had similar issues and had a solution. I planning to send the card back if it is not resolved.

    Any help appreciated.

    Keith.
