    Hi all,
I’m using an Intensity Pro to capture and record component to a Beta SP deck. (Premiere Pro 2.0, Dell 690) The deck wants ref video for the monitor to display properly. Any suggestions on how I can supply ref video?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi.

Take cam corder and have it output black signal as composite video (closed cap mode :)). Generally there you got ref. More sophisticated way would be with black burst generator.

Thanks for the suggestion, Margus. I tried it, but it doesn’t solve the problem. The deck “wants” ref video in sync with the source video, apparently. Using the camera as ref video simply changed the position of the sync roll in the monitor.
This may be more of a cosmetic issue than anything else, since the deck records fine and the playback is fine. But it’s not confidence inspiring when you’re exporting to tape and watching the video roll in the deck monitor…

    Hi again.

Seems that you give ref only to beta but you also need to give it in your capture card if possible so they have the same sync signal. This is the general idea to ref as all devices get the same synchronization frequency so to say and it keeps them locked. I assumed that your camera outputs full res signal and you can split your signal atleast with simple wire spliter wich goes simultaniosly to caprture card like DL Extreme sync in and beta ref in.

Well, I guess one gets what one pays for. There is no provision that I can find for the Intensity Pro card to take an external sync signal, nor to send one. Even though the name says Pro, I suppose one shouldn’t expect professional features for $300.

    Maybe I can find a $50 genlock box…

    Thanks again for the suggestions.

place Y-out from decklink to the REF-in on deck, and connect REF-out on deck to Y-in on deck

    Bingo! Works perfectly.
    Thanks very much, Jorje.
I had half-way suspected that there was a way to loop the video signal, but my limited video engineering experience predates component video, so I had no idea which leg to use.
