Hey folks! I’ve been doing a lot of research to figure out what would be best for upgrading my work system. It looks as if one of the BlackMagic products is going to be the best way to go, but I just thought I’d get some opinions here, especially since most of you probably already have one….

Anyway, here’s what I’m working with:

    PowerPC G5 Quad 2.5Ghz
    4.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
    OSX 10.4.1
    GeForce6600

    Basically, my needs are:
    Dual Monitors
    In/Out for BetaSP Deck
External Preview, preferably without sync issues

Currently, I’ve been using a camera as an av/dv passthrough to the monitor, and then having to constantly rewire things when dealing with the Beta. We work in a mixture of HDV (via firewire) and P2 cards, so capture isn’t a big concern, except for the Beta.

Obviously, budget IS an issue, but I’ve basically been told to get whatever I need to be happy.

Would I be correct that a BM card is what I need? If so, which model seems most appropriate? I’ve already got (what I assume is) a decent idea, but I thought I’d get input from those who know.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello Kyle,

If you are working on Beta SP and then eventually HD sources, you would best to go for a HD card as it can be used for SD work when you need it as well.

DeckLink HD Extreme or DeckLink HD Pro.
