  • Intensity card and no/screwed up video input

I’m having trouble getting this intensity card to take video off the HDMI output of this BR50U deck (firmware is 1.08). Intensity card is in a dual 2 gig Intel running FCP 6 and 10.4.9 2 gigs RAM. I have no other hardware installed, right this minute not even a DV deck. FCP gets nothing from it and gives the standard “No Video Input” window (and yes, the HDMI is plugged into the proper input jack on the card).

Wondering if it was FCP, I closed FCP and opened up the Media Express app and went to the capture tab. There, video was getting through, but only one second out of ten. In other words it would get a couple of frames, then lose the stream and give the no input message for about five-ten seconds, then find it again, then lose it after a couple of frames again.

So, the signal is getting into the OS through the card. But FCP can’t see it, and its broken up. I have tried this with both FW DV device control, and then without to make sure FCP wasn’t getting confused about source of video. I have also capture this same portion of video from the same tape through the same deck through FW HDV and I’m looking at it’s playback while attempting this, so I don’t think this is a source tape problem.

Is there something I’m missing here?

The first thing to check is the preferences in the blackmagic capture progam. Also check that the deck is indeed outputting a signal and what kind of resolution is it, then match that to the preference in the software. Then final cut should have no problem with it.

Intensity prefs don’t allow anything other than HDMI in for the card. Resolution and rate are matched 720P59.94. Deck is outputting the signal. Intensity is only getting intermittant frames through to its own app and FCP not at all.

I’ve just received our Intensity Pro and am having trouble as well although I think I may know what is up…

I can see and capture 720p60 with the BR-HD50 by opening the capture window with capture settings to any codec at 702p59.75 BUT device control is set to “uncontrollable device” and the 1394 switch on the deck must be set to HDV.

Great but no timecode or deck control.

It appears that deck control and TC cannot work via firewire. I’m pretty sure that we have to use the Keyspan/Addenda combination via RS422. See obscure link…

I have the devices on order and will report back.

Meanwhile can anyone confirm that Intensity DOES NOT work the BR-HD50 via firewire!

Kristian is checking on another factor for me right now, so my issue may have to do with an early version of the card. Will report back if its related.

old rev of the card was causing the problem.
