  • help please: can’t digitze the vinyl records

Posted by Kozo Okumura on May 19, 2007 at 7:38 pm

I have a Decklink Extreme card installed on my G5 and trying to capture music from vinyl records using either FCP or Soundtrack Pro. The turntable is connected to mixer (the ones DJ uses). The mixer has a RCA out and XLR out. When I connect the mixer to decklink via XLR, I don’t get any sound at all. The mixer is amplifiying the sound so that I can hear the music fine when I connected the mixer to AUX in of my boombox. any advice?

    Thank you

Did you connect video to your decklink?

No, I am only digitizing the sound which is coming from mixer.

Does blackmagic card require video source even though i am only capturing the audio.

when I am trying to digitize the audio using soundtrack pro with input setup to Decklink, still i can’t get any audio in..

    please help.

you have to feed it video even if you are not capturing it or you will get no audio.

    thank you, Jason,

Do you mean that even when I am using soundtrack pro, I should have some kind of video feed to get audio signal coming?

Can’t help you much with Soundtrack pro as I have never used it. In Final Cut one seems to need the video feed even if one is only interested in the analog.

have you checked the device input settings in soundtrack?

    Hi,

That’s correct. The DeckLink Extreme is an SDI card with analog convertors on it. SDI expects video with embedded audio. If there is no video stream, then there is no where for the audio to embed so you won’t hear anything.

You do not have to capture video but you do need a token video source. Even a composite analog video signal will do.
