    i have a 2009 2 x 2.26 ghz quad-core intel xeon mac pro
with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120.

i just got some more ram 16 gigs from only six gigs and reinstalled 4gigs to give me 20. i’ve read “the Please try recommended memory settings for After Effects CS5 and give feedback”.

to be honest. AE seems to be running only a little better than when i had only six gigs. i really thought 16 gigs would be fine and a big boost but the ram preview still seems sluggish even at low rez.

3d programs have render test scene files to see the performance speed of ones machine. to actually see the expectations of your machines setup.
is there such a file for after effects. maybe my expectations of 20 gigs was way to high after using ony 6 gigs. i really thought the ram preview bar was gonna go much faster.

It’s not just about how much RAM you put into the computer.

See this page for information improving performance in After Effects.
