The new Intensity HDMI Card an Sony PS3
Hi. this is probably one for the BMD team. I know the HDMI board hasn’t been out long, but I’m just wondering if anyone has had a chance to connect a PS3 to the input to capture on a mac? Obvously I’m specifically concerned with gaming output rather than BlueRay HDDVD (which I’m assuming will be carrying some kind of copy protection?) and the board seems to support the flavours I’m after (720P/60), but no mention of 1080P/60 – is this planned for a future driver update?

Hi,
1080p60 over HDMI is not supported at the moment. Compatibility with the PS3 has not been tested as yet. I’m having a hard time convincing Grant to get us one 🙂

Regardless, a PS3 uses what’s called “HDCP Encryption”. Just like any cable box or Blu-ray player will. So you can’t capture from it with an Intensity or any other legal product. Especially not from a product from a company based in Australia where the laws are practically Digital Gestapo.

It would only have HDCP with movies though. surely the game output is not copy protected. and don’t call me shirley! 😉
