  DECKLINK SDI CAPTURE

  Hi,
  I have a Sony DVCAM DSR-1600 with SDI option board Sony DSBK-1601.
  I want to buy a Decklink SDI capture card (https://www.dv411.com/decklink.html) but I don’t know it will work with my DSBK-1601 board or not
  I notice that the Decklink has embedded SDI audio, but the DSBK-1601 (https://www.globalmediapro.com/video/products/Sony_DSBK1601_SDI_AESEBU_Output_Board–418.html)doesn’t has embedded SDI audio.
  Please help me figure out how to capture DVCAM SDI video/audio or show me what SD-SDI capture card will work with my DVCAM DSR-1600

  I am using the Decklink etreme and a Decklink HD and they work great with my Sony Dvcam 1500A with SDI embeded audio.

  Thank you Ron,
  Could you show me how to capture audio from my DSR1600? I notice that the Decklink only have one SDI input for video and audio, but my DSR-1600 has one SDI video output and one SDI audio output (is that mean I need 2 BNC wires for video and audio out?)

  Chao Anh Minh,

  I have searched the web but cannot find any notes as to whether the DSBK-1601 board will or won’t allow you to embed audio in the SDI video output. If you can find a way to make that work, then the DeckLink card should be all you need to capture from your deck. The DeckLink card is a PCI card which can run at 33 or 66 MHz.

  If you cannot find a way to embed the audio, then you will need either the DeckLink HD Extreme (PCI Express) or DeckLink HD Pro (PCI-X) card. Both of these cards include SDI in & out as well as AES audio in & out and both cards support SD-SDI as well as HD-SDI.

  I don’t know with which Mac or PC you want to use the DeckLink card so please note that the three cards mentioned above are for different kinds of slots, ie PCI, PCI Express and PCI-X.

  Here is my PC spec:
  Tyan K8WE (S2895) https://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8we.html
  Dual AMD opteron 280
  2GB PC3200 memory
  2TB SATA 2 RAID 0 (4X500GB)
  200GB system drive

  I don’t know the difference between PCI Express & PCI-X (which one is faster?)
  Could you please give me your advice? All I need is capture SDI video/audio from my Sony SDBK-1601 option board.

  Have I got this wrong….If you’re working with DVCAM then isn’t firewire going to be just as effective as SDI? I was of the understanding that you only benefit from SDI if using either uncompressed D1 footage, or something very slightly compressed like DigiBeta? Surely DV footage is a much lower bandwidth, hence why you can use firewire..

  This isn’t a dig, I’m genuinely interested in the differences – constantly trying to understand formats and compression better.
