Forum suggestion
Posted by Daniel5000 on September 14, 2006 at 10:02 amHello All
With all the different products from Black Magic, different OSs, and an increasing amount of supported NLE software, should the forum consider the creation of categories?

September 15, 2006 at 12:24 amI think the next step in the ‘blackmagic’ evolution would be for them to have their own forums as the Cow seems to have too many catagories as it is now!
If Blackmagic wanna mix with the big boyz they gotta do what the big boyz do (limited only to the good things please)

September 15, 2006 at 1:51 amHello,
I don’t think the Creative Cow has to many forums and Blackmagic should get there own forum on there servers. It’s great coming to a portal such as the COW and getting a forum and tutorials on all the industry standard equipment hardware/software with thousands of users where you can easily get help form other users. Having one portal with all this rich content is amazing and easily accessible for everyone in the creative industry.
Thanks,
Leo

September 15, 2006 at 2:26 amHey Leo… I wasn’t being critical of the Cow… Hell… I couldn’t operate without it… What I was implying was that if every Cow catagory had sub catagories within sub catagories it would end up a maze of confusion.
Hardware manufacturers like Pinnacle, Matrox, Canopus, etc have their own forums as does most other large companies where the sub catagories can exist so it only seems natural for BMD to do the same.
Of course the main concern for people here is that many users would migrate away from the Cow and spend their valuable online time at BMD… but hey!… just go with the flow…

September 15, 2006 at 10:25 amHello,
I did not mean you were being criticial. I just meant it’s easier having all the forums in one website.
I think it’s good Blackmagic having the portal all here on the COW as it will get more views with loads of other users who use Adobe Products, Apple etc and may be able to offer assistance etc.
Thanks,
Leo

September 19, 2006 at 5:02 amHi Daniel,
That’s an interesting idea but as our products are cross-platform, and as the DeckLink drivers work with both DeckLink cards and Multibridges, a lot of information is common to both Mac and Windows and also to DeckLink and Multibridge. So while subcategories seem like a neat way to organize the information, I think it might make it easier to miss information when searching the forum. The search facility in the Cow works well and you can just enter some keywords for the forum and get a bunch of hits which usually lead to the desired answer. If we spread the information over multiple forums, it may become to hard to find what you’re looking for. Sure we could have forums on our own web site but I suspect it would just split up the information between the Cow and the Blackmagic Design web site and make it harder to find information. It would be easy to do but so far I haven’t noticed any compelling reasons to do that. In any case, thank you for the idea as it’s always good to know what people are thinking and we really appreciate all the ideas.
Regards,
Luke Maslen
