Just installed a Mac Pro with a Decklink HD Extreme card. Must function as a multimedia workstation for SD video streams to load from Media100 844/X via SDI. No extra disk raid, just the internal 250 Gb. Find out that the 844/X codec isn’t universal yet. What codec is best to use?

    Hi,

On which machine media 100 is installed?

If you capture from media 100 which is on another system into the decklink SDi which is in your MacPro, then you won’t need the media 100 codec.

    Hi Olivier Jean,

Media 100 844/X is installed on the playing set. We want to record edited material from this set, via the decklink SDI in, to the Mac Pro. On this Mac we do DVD authoring etc. I guess recording in the same (844/X) codec to Mac Pro gives the best result. But not all the codecs are Universal Binary. And there is something more, the Decklink VTR software is not able to record free running from an other edit system. It can only take a clip from a VTR. Any suggestions? What’s the best working codec on the Mac Pro and how to record a videostream without the use of an editing program?

Interesting….I use the Movie->Capture Now function all the time since I capture directly from a camera. Do you mean that this functionality is now gone?

The data coming out of your SDI spigot is uncompressed from the 844/X codec, so the best codec would be uncompressed. I’d probably use 8-bit since you have already lost data from compressing it to 844/X.

Shame on me, didn’t see this menu item (movie => capture) yet. Works fine. Thanks for the help.
