HEY EVERYONE, IM TYPING IN CAPS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I HAVE THE PREVIEW DISABLED WHILE RENDERING IN AE… 🙂

I REALLY REALLY NEED HELP HERE I’M TRYING TO JUGGLE COLLEGE AND WORK AND IM ABOUT TO GET FIRED FROM MY JOB WHICH I LOVE OVER THESE ISSUES.

I TALKED MY BOSS INTO LETTING ME BUILD AN EDITING MACHINE THIS SUMMER AND I PUT TOGETHER A DUAL, DUAL-CORE AMD OPTERON SYSTEM ON A TYAN THUNDER BOARD WITH 4GIGS RAM, AN NVIDIA QUADRO FX 1300, AND 2 X 500 GIG DRIVES. WE ARE USING THE ADOBE PRODUCTION STUDIO AND THE BLACK MAGIC HD EXTREME CARD. WE FINALLY GOT EVERYTHING FUNCTIONING WITH THE MACHINE, BUT THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH QUALITY AND PLAYBACK.

    okay no more caps :).

our main problem for a while has been stable playback…I combined our two 500 gig drives in disk manage into one volume, which is the only way i knew to stripe them together?? they are both 7200rpm SATA seagate drives and our disk speed according to the BM disk tester is 93mb/s and the write speed for 8 bit SDI which is what we are using is 139mb/s. Once I striped them together (which I don’t know if I did right) the speed increased to what I just mentioned and it seemed to solve most of our playback issues, but not entirely…the machine even has some problems playing back our old dv projects before we had BMD.

now…all that aside…the reason I’m about to be out on the curb is because we are very late on a commercial I’ve been working on that has a lot of detailed shots…the commercial looks fantastic in Premiere Pro 2.0…I export it using the black-magic compiler at 8bits, import it into after effects and there is a slight quality loss in after effects, but not too bad………………..the real trouble is when I try to export out of after effects…it is aliasing and artifacting and jumping and doing everything it shouldn’t-it looks like heck. I’ve tried rendering as video for windows and as quicktime…using the specified pixel formats in the black magic user manual – quicktime 10 bit…quicktime 8 bit…video for windows 8 bit and 10 bit…ive selected lower field first on best settings and I’ve also tried dv settings. I really have no idea what could be going on….any help would be greatly appreciated. Like…like greatly appreciated. and if someone who knows a lot about this wants to take the time to call me and walk me through fixing this problem I’ll pay pal you whatever it’s worth to you (within reason). Thanks

    Hi

Can you send us some screenshots of your render settings in AE? Also a frame or two of the movie that shows the artifacts you’re talking about? Please grab a screenshot of your After Effects project settings. If the files get too big, send to to us via yousendit.com to support[at]blackmagic-design.com.

We’ll try our best to help.

    regards

I’m just sifting through the board here but it sounds like it might be an interlacing issue in AE. Do an interpretation on your footage (click on item in project window and do a cntrl-f I think) and change it from its default frame to lower field first (assuming you’re using lower field dominant stuff). Then render to fields (assuming your final output is fields) and see if that helps?
