  decklink sp & tempo sata x4p & fw card….

  hi there,

  i searched the boards and know what my issue is, but i have a question about a possible solution. just wondering if it makes sense.

  I have a decklink sp & tempo sata x4p & fw card all inside my g5 2.5 dual. so we are talking about the 3 pci-x slots of the ‘older’ G5s. i just added the sata card with the decklink up in slot 4 (where it has always lived). I pulled the slow FW800 card – installed the sata card in slot 2, set up a 3 drive raid 0 and found the speeds as expected. of course, when i re-installed the fw 800 card back in slot 3 the speeds on the raid plummeted. I’m clear on the concept that this is because my fw 800 card is a slow pci card sharing a bus with the sata card and bringing it down.

  now.

  would i be better off, as dumb as this sounds, to install the slow pci fw 800 card in the fast slot 4 and have the decklink and the sata card share the bus on slot 2 & 3. my reasoning would be that they are both fast cards, hence one would not ‘slow down’ the other and i would gain the most to have that config.

  although somewhat logical, is it actually correct?

  it’s not a huge deal as i don’t think i would be using the fw card AND the sata raid at the same time, it’s just some of my jobs are 2 FW drive dv jobs and some are SD 8 bit jobs. so rarley would i have to mix. in which case i could pull the fw card when need be for blazing speeds on the raid.
