I have digitized betacamSP thru a blackmagic decklink card into FCP. It has a freeze frame every 8 to 10 seconds looking like a stutter effect. The footage is stored on a Lacie Bigger Disk Extreme drive using firewire 800. I use a G5 1.8 dual processor / 2GB ram / OS 10.4.7 / FCP v5.1.1. I figure my drive isn’t fast enough for 10 bit but not sure. Could somebody help me out and tell me what my options are. Also am I gaining anything if I digitize in 8 bit and then set the timeline and output to tape in 10 bit? Thanks ahead of time!

you guessed it – use 8 bit uncompressed – it will be fine. Remember, the AVID Meridian systems, used by network shows, are 8 bit uncompressed – so if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for you.
