  4 channel audio thru Decklink Pro

  Hi there, I always capture BetacamSP tapes flawless thru the Decklink Pro card using either a Sony J3 or the Sony 500 deck. But now that I want to capture 4 channels of audio, it will only capture the first two channels. Is this at all possible with my setup?

  FCP 5.0.4 Decklink Pro, Sony J3 or 500

  Hi,

  Assuming the rest of your Blackmagic / Final Cut system is set up correctly you still may have difficulty capturing 4 channels of audio from a Beta SP tape and a J3 deck.

  As the J3 is a ‘no frills” machine it does not have the heads on the rotary drum to access the FM modulated audio channels (that is channels 3 and 4).

  Well, that is the way it is here on a PAL J3 deck.

  Also be aware that capturing BetacamSP through a J3 deck will give significant quality loss in the image.
  To capture 4 channels of audio you will need a dedicated SP machine such as a BVW-75.
