  • Does Premier Pro 2 render in 10 bit or higher???

I would have thought this a simple question to answer so Im asking it again.

I have Decklink Extreme and Ppro 2 – now working with a 10bit project setting and editing footage encoded with the BM 10 bit codec – which filters/transistions native to Ppro 2 will actually opperate in a 10bit or higher colour space?

The only mention I could find in the adobe documentation is that when Ppro2 renders dynamically linked footage (from after effects) that it will render this at whatever the color depth was set in after efects. ie either 8, 16 or 32

But I still need to know if I go and colour corect some 10bit footage or even place a title over some 10bit footage on the timeline, will Ppro 2 calculate this in a 10bit or higher color space? A few posts on this forum suggest earlier versions of Ppro only ever do this in 8bit but they may have been refering to HD so Im a bit confused?

    Thanks

    Pabo

If you set your rendering preference in the project settings to 10-bit uncompressed, I understand it will render your filters, effects and comps in 10-bit. It certainly won’t be 8-bit if you select the 10-bit setting. I sometime capture in BM 8-bit then set the rendering to 10-bit for the best effects and fades.

Thanks Peter – Since then I have also read on the Adobe website that Ppro2 supposedly processes effects and CC in a 32bit workspace but it was just a marketing blurb and did not elaborate or go into any detail.
