    Hi Kristian,

I’m getting strange issues with my Decklink extreme card.
The card is PCI and when I try to capture footage thru the Firewire port, frames are dropping like crazy !! I tries the speedtest, but the test gives me ample speed for the required task. Anyway, when I disable the Decklin video desktop, I can capture without dropping frames, but the capture preview looks jerky although the captured footage is fine. I’m sure the issue is with the Decklink, because when I uninstalled it, Firewire capture is flawless.

I think it might be related to some hardware, as I discovered that my ASUS P4C800E deluxe motherboard has 32-bit PCI slots instead of the recommended 64-bit. Could this be the bottleneck ??

    My complete config:

    ASUS P4C800E mobo with P4 3,2 Ghz and 2 GB DDR400 RAM
Primary system disk Maxtor Diamondmax 9plus 80gb S-ATA
RAID 0 for video, 2 Maxtor Diamondmax 9plus 80gb S-ATA striped with the on mobo RAID controller (Promise)
S-ATA disk 200 GB for audio.
    Decklink extreme PCI card.
    Adobe Premiere Pro 2

Do I need to get another motherboard and if yes which one (I’m in Europe).
Also the certified mobos I looked at all have 32-bit PCI slots only. It seems that a 64 bit PCI slot does not exist (only in PCI-X versions, but I guess you cannot put the PCI card in one of those or can you ?), because when loocking at ten of board they are all with 32-bit slots only

Thanks for any comments or suggestions that could clear this issue up.

    Hi Marc,

Sorry I missed out on your earlier post.

Can you confirm which version of DeckLink drivers you have installed? If you’re not on the latest, please upgrade and see if it helps.

The DeckLink Extreme will work in a 32 bit PCI slot even though we would recommned a 64 bit PCI-X for performance.

Do you have any other PCI cards you have installed? If so, try yanking them out.

You can also email us at pcsupport[at]blackmagic-design.com. Attach your NFO file by going into Start > Run and typing “msinfo32”.

    Hi Kristian,

    No problem.

I got the latest drivers on the system (5.5.1) and although it solves a lot of earlier issues like the serious error problem. I still got some issues, but able to work around it. But I have to admit that have to uninstall the drivers is kind of a pain. I’m going to email you the info file so you can have a look at it.

    Hi,

To uninstall the drivers, just use the Add/Remove program feature in Control Panel. To be doubly sure, you can go into the registry and remove entries related to DeckLink. However, that’s not really necessary unless you run into problems.

    Kristian,

    Thanks for the info.

I ran into another issue with Premiere Pro and the Decklink card.

When I select a DV PAL project and drag clips or graphics to the timeline everything looks nice and fine in the preview windows on my computer desktop.

When I use a Blackmagic PAL YUV 10 Bit preset, the video and graphics quality looks degraded in those preview windows. Everything looks jagged and aliased. Final output is nice, no issues there, but the preview windows look crappy. Any idea what might cause this ?

I purchased a DeckLink Pro card last year and, in accordance with the recommendations on your website, I upgraded my motherboard to include a 64 bit slot. The Pro card is a short card and does not engage with the full length of the 64 bit slot. What do you mean when you say it will work with a 32 bit slot but you recommend a 64 bit slot for performance? How exactly does plugging the Pro card into a 64 bit slot increase performance over plugging it into a 32 bit slot? Conversely, what is the downside of plugging it into a 32 bit slot compared to plugging it into a 64 bit slot?
