  • Down Conversion using HD Pro PCIe card…..advice please!

Posted by Sean Ashley on April 17, 2006 at 3:37 pm

HI, sorry if theis question has been asked before, but i am using the HD Pro PCIe card in a new G5 dual 2ghz with the Decklink 5.5.1 drivers.
I want to be able to capture at 1080/50 but output simultanously to a SD CRT broadcast monitor (i dont have HD monitoring at the moment)
I have tried enabling the HDTV down conversion using the decklink control panel, but most of the options are greyed out (apart from the software options)
seeing as my monitor doesnt have SDI input i wanted to be able to use the component analog output of the card for temporary monitoring, but the option to “enable down conversion on analog output” is also greyed out along with all of the hardware options. Are these options not available using the PCIe card? is hardware down conversion only available for the PCI-X HD Pro card.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
    thx in advance

    Hi Sean,

Hardware down conversion is available only in the PCI-X version of the DeckLink HD Pro Dual Link card.

Once the video is captured, you can turn on software down conversion on the card in the DeckLink preferences and still get SD monitoring.

aaah ok thanks for your reply Kristian. Am i right in assuming the SDI monitor out BNC port is only enabled when you play out through the card from FCP and its not “live” when you are capturing using the HD/SDI input? I have a multibridge HD and was wondering if i could take the SDI mon out into the multibridge and output analog component into my SD broadcast monitor for viewing while i log footage. Or am i restricted to viewing on my SD monitor only when the footage is played back from the timeline using the software down conversion as u suggested?

    Thanks again,

    sean

[Sean Ashley] “Am i right in assuming the SDI monitor out BNC port is only enabled when you play out through the card from FCP and its not “live” when you are capturing using the HD/SDI input?”

It is also live when capturing. However, there is no down conversion when this is happening. The output is the E-E of the card so if you’re capturing HD, the SDI outputs will be HD even if down conversion is turned on in the DeckLink preferences.
