  • DVCProHD 720p realtime down conversion on a decklink extreme?

Posted by Ethan Cooper on March 16, 2006 at 9:01 pm

I ran across some DVCPro HD footage on one of my hard drives that I’d like to archive onto BetaCam SP.
I’ve got a Decklink Extreme card in a dual 2.0 G5 and seem to be having trouble getting the realtime downconversion to play out to my deck.
The DVCProHD footage was captured via fireiwre at 1440 x 720 59.97

My question is this, is it possible for me to play this footage straight out of the decklink into the BetaCam deck, or do I need to drop this footage into an SD timeline and render?

    Hi,

Yes, we support 720p59.94 down conversion. Just turn on 720p down conversion in the Blackmagic DeckLink Preferences.

I dont mean to sound stupid here, but I dont see that option in my DeckLink Preferences. You are referring to the preferences listed under system preferences aren’t you? Or is there another set of preferences somewhere else?

Yes. Do make sure you’re running the latest version of our drivers as the older version might not have 720p down conversion support.

I also have the decklink extreme (running the latest BM 5.4.2, on Power mac G5, dual 2 gig, OSX10.4.5, FCP 5.0.4 )and the only up/down covnverter options available in the system preferences window are “HD to SD letterbox 16:9” and “HD to SD letterbox anamorphi.” There are other options, but they are greyed out / unavailable for selection…?

That’s exactly what I’m experiencing and I too have downloaded the latest drivers for OSX 10.3.8.

    Hi Michael,

Ensure that your’re down converting a 720p59.94 clip. We do not support down conversion from other frame rates.
