    Hi!
Suddenly I get the “General error” as soon as I try to refresh A/V Devices in FCP. Worked fine yesterday, but not today.
I’ve trashed the preferences with no luck…

I just can’t figure it out.

    Anyone?

    TIA
    /Erik

    Hi,

FCP usually throws a “general error” message when it fails to get access to the video hardware. Do you have any other video applications opened when this is happening? Are you not getting any video output from Final Cut Pro now?

Hi Kristian and thanks for the quick response.
Yes, everything is working now after a restart.
Your response clarified a lot since I often work simultaneously in FCP and After Effects
and going back and fort between them.
So, is there something I can do to prevent this “General Error” hassle or is
    that something to just accept?
It’s extremely annoying when sitting with a customer and not quite know what happens.

Anyway, everything working at the moment…

    Thanks again,
    Erik J

No workaround that I knwo off except to work slower 😉

It seems that FCP will take some time to release hold of the video output device and if you switch between the applications quickly, FCP gets confused.
