I’m capturing 60p slowed to 29.97 via the Blackmagic Varicam preset. This captures the 60p via HDSDI and slows it down as it captures. It seems one must set the duration of the capture to what the clip will be after capture. So a 1min clip at 60p must be marked as 2min, or more in practice. How does one capture the last shot on the tape, or any shot with a timecode break, which would cause the recording to abort before the slowed clip duration has passed. Is capturing as an live uncontrolled device, letting FCP continue it’s “capture” after the tape has stopped, the only workaround?

Capturing as DVCPRO HD 59.94 and using the Panasonic Rate convertor solves the problem, but then you take a compression hit. Apple needs to make it’s own rate convertor that works on any 720p or 1080p footage.

    Hi John,

You’ll need plenty of tape after the last shot in order to do what you want to achieve. The trick is not to use up the whole tape when or you’ll have trouble capturing.
