After some testing I can now confirm that installing the Decklink drivers will definitely make iPhoto 6 unstable. In particular when you try and edit a photo it will crash every time. Uninstall the drivers and iPhoto works perfectly. This is also added to the problem that with Decklink installed you cannot use your iSight camera. Unless you open FCP and go to capture mode first.

Will these issues every be resolved or will there just be lots of finger pointing?

    Hi Sean,

Plase send us a copy of the crash log when iPhoto crashes. We’ll look into it.

As for iSight, I’m afaid there’s nothing we can do about it. There’s no way of specifying which device iChat looks for and it seems to like the DeckLink cards.

I was kindly pointed to the Motion forum, where they have had issues, and are saying that 10.4 has resolved them.
On my quad it has not, especially with Soundtrack, seems to be irrevelant what sound settings I have set.
    Very flakey.

    One hopes.

    Hi,

[mhh] “I was kindly pointed to the Motion forum, where they have had issues, and are saying that 10.4 has resolved them.

Are you having issues with Motion or Soundtrack?

Motion used to crash dues to some issues in OS X 10.4.3 and that was resolved with 10.4.4. Alternatively, if you’re on OS X 10.4.3, you can turn off the video desktop option in Blackmagic DeckLink Preferences. See this technote:

If you’re having issues with Soundtrack, it relevant to Motion? Pleae let know us know more in detail. Thanks.

Indeed if you do turn off the Video Desktop setting in the control panel it will fix the crashing in iPhoto 6.

Ah ok. This has something to do with OS X 10.4.3’s OpenGL rendering and it should be resolved if you update to 10.4.4. Please let us know if this is not the case.

    I am on 10.4.4 on a quad.
It is hit and miss if i get audio through decklink card in Soundtrack Pro.
If i send to STP from FCP, 80% of the time the audio routes through the card, it does not seem to matter what input/output settings in STP ….. the card has the audio.
If I try and record into STPvia card, i can not get it to see any audio, again regardless of what input/output settings, the only way in or out is a restart and in via mini jack on the mac.

Interestingly having been in STP and coming back to FCP only show current frames gives me audio and video, refresh and show all, from menu or trying to toggle keys does not work.

    Is this a quad thing?

It’s not the case I’m afraid. Already on 10.4.5.

Also. Are you sure that it is iChat trying to grab the Decklink and not the Decklink trying to grab the iSight? It’s funny that if you go to capture mode in FCP you can then use iChatAV and the iSight. But if you open the Blackmagic Deck control you can’t. Isn’t the Blackmagic Deck Control the same as going to capture mode?

In this case, can you send us a crash report when you get the chance?

[Sean Lander] “Are you sure that it is iChat trying to grab the Decklink and not the Decklink trying to grab the iSight?”

iChat goes through the Quicktime device list alphabetically and tries to grab the 1st one it comes across, which is ‘Blackmagic’. Launching Log and Capture in FCP grabs hold of the Blackmagic device even when FCP is relegated to the background, hence iChat will skip the Blackmagic device and go on to iSight.

[Sean Lander] “Isn’t the Blackmagic Deck Control the same as going to capture mode?”

This is true. However, Blackmagic Deck Control does not hold on to the Blackmagic device when it is not active. The moment you switch to iChat, you’re back to square one again.

Ok thanks. Now how about re-naming the drivers to Z-Blackmagic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the link to the crash report. Seems others are having the same problem.

    Hi,

It looks like the same issue with Aperture and Motion in 10.4.3 that Apple fixed in 10.4.4. We’ll need to talk to Apple about it.
