We’re capturing live on set from a Sony Z1’s composite output into the DecklinkHD through a Multibridge Extreme..

I haven’t had a lot of time to quadruple check everything.. Since I’m not using a deck, I can’t use the Decklink’s capture utility (right?), so I’m capturing straight into Vegas.

I set the Vegas project to HD 1080-60i and start the capture video utility.

How do I set bit/compression rate? or do I? The info on the clips says it’s using the ‘Sony YUV’ codec.. ?

The videos captured are AVIs. They cannot be viewed in Quicktime (even though the blackmagic quicktime codecs are installed).. is this normal?

Everything seems to go fine in combustion.. Open the AVIs; work as normal; view output on the frame-buffered monitor.. Great!

I guess it seems very easy to get up and going in Vegas, but I don’t know that I’m doing the right thing since I don’t seem to have any control or display of bit rates or compression settings.. Is it really this easy?

(Sorry if this is has already been overly discussed, I’m searching the forums and crawling all over the black-magic site and just can’ find much info)

capuring thru V6 is AVI only – no choice to capture QT ..and as far as i know it is preset bit rate
same as premiere -capture thru premiere on pc = AVI ..
when you install BM codec’s on PC it installs both QT & avi
i’ve been told that capturing thru decklinks capture utility you can capture as QT..

i’ve been told that capturing thru decklinks capture utility you can capture as QT..

But you can’t use the utility for live capture, right? (I get an error about no deck control and the program crashes)

If there are no settings for capture, what bits are we capturing at?

In Deck Control you can use easy setups (top of the preferences window)to choose for example BlackMagic PAL-10 bit. Then Control+K starts capturing, no need to have tape deck, just input signal.

Everytime I start the Blackmagic Deck Control it crashes immediately..

If I click on view data I get this:

AppName: blackmagic deck control.exe App Ver 4.4.7.0 ModName: quicktimeauthoring.qtx
    ModVer: 6.5.2.10 Offset: 000a77ba

    ?

It seems if I open combustion, I can start the deck control without it crashing.. But I can’t do anything with it since it isn’t seeing a deck. If I go to Preference, none of the easy setups I select activate.. The Serial Control is set to RS422 Deck Control, and I can’t deselect that (for LIVE capturing).. The Capture Settings both show ‘Blackmagic HDTV 1080 (missing)’ which I can’t change, and everyting else is greyed out..
