Video hub bridg

We have 10 sdi based editing stations and 7 sdi based decks and should add (at least) one multibridge as well. That is at least 18 sdi ports needed. The multibridge offer 12. I wonder if it is possible to connect several video hubs in some sort of dasy chain.

no – you will not get the flexibility that you want (anything in to anything out) by using more than one Videohub. This is the case (and limitation) of EVERY small router – be it from Blackmagic, Leitch, ProBel, Pesa, Sierra, Sigma, Utah Scientific, Kramer, etc. When you purchase a router, you must buy a frame that is large enough for your future expansion IN ADVANCE – when you max out the size of your router, you can’t expand it. This is typical of many companies that purchase generic 16×16 routers, and run out of room very quickly, and say “we just want to add 4 more inputs. The only solution is to purchase a 32×32 router, and if it is a modular router, just load 16 of the crosspoints and expand later. Most people never do this becuase they don’t want to spend the money for the large frame.
The Blackmagic Videohub is a teriffic inexpensive product for the typical 2 to 6 workstation facility. You have a large facility, and since you own 7 SDI based decks, you obviously have plenty of money as well. You need a LARGE ROUTER. I strongly suggest in your shopping that you purchase a MINIMUM of a 32×32 router. Typically, a place like Ant Farm in LA, that has 50 edit systems, purchased a 128×128 Sierra router. Yes, its very expensive, and there is quite a bit of labor involved in setting up a router like this.
I don’t know how successful Blackmagic has been with the Videohub, but if they could make a 32×32 router like the Videohub for $15,000, I believe they would sell a lot of these.
