On my SDI ouputs, I occasionally get weird flickering/jitter. When I unplug the SdI cable from my SDI monitor, and plug it back in, the signal straightens out, then after a couple minutes or hours, it goes wacky again.

Is it the SDI card in my JVC monitor or the decklink? A service person once told me that SDI either works or it doesn’t – it’s very strange for me to get a broken picture. So perhaps it’s some sort of SDI driver conflict?

    Hi John,

If your model of DeckLink card supports component analog output, and if your JVC monitor supports component analog input, try connecting via component analog and see if the problem continues or goes away. This will help to narrow down the problem somewhat.

The Componant analog always works fine. I have them both hooked up to the monitor and I switch to the analog input on the monitor when the problem happens in the middle of a session.

    Hi Jon,

If the SDI problem only happens on the monitor but not on the deck, then I suspect the SDI input to your monitor might be misbehaving. If your monitor is a CRT, then you might as well continue to use the component output of your DeckLink card as there is no advantage in using the SDI-component convertor card in your monitor. In fact, many CRT monitors can automatically detect when you switch video formats with component analog video but will not detect a change in video formats if you connect via SDI.

If you find the SDI output of the DeckLink card is causing a problem for the deck, then that would be a different situation which we would need to examine more carefully.
