  Problem outputting from HD Pro Single Link to Sony LCD monitor over HD-SDI

  I am having a really annoying problem connecting a Sony 23″ LCD monitor (the professional version, powered by the MEU-WX1 processor) to the HD-SDI output of my DeckLink HD Pro 4:2:2 card. When I test the output using either the Video Desktop feature or using the output settings in Final Cut Pro (5.0.4) in anything other than SD PAL or NTSC I get an intermittent flicker of the video being output in the top fifth or so of the monitor. On the 1280×720 resolutions (either at 59 or 60Hz) the flicker is accompanied by an audio crackle. The video flicker appears far less frequently at 1920×1080 at 25Hz, and most at 1920×1080 at 24Hz

  The status menu on the monitor correctly states the format being sent each time and changes immediately when I alter the display settings on the computer. I have tried both the HD-SDI inputs on the monitor and ruled out bad cables. When I connect the HD-SDI signal from a Sony JH3 HDCAM player in 1080 25Psf mode the monitor works perfectly.

  In terms of DeckLink settings, I have output set to “SDI & Analog Y, B-Y, R-Y”, input to SDI Video and SDI Audio, both up and down converters off (if I use the down converter to convert the 1080 to PAL the monitor works fine in the lower resolution), Black video output to deck in capture is disabled, video desktop is on.

  Using a dual 2Ghz G5 w/ 3GB ram and the DL card running in the 133Mhz slot. Also installed the most recent drivers to no effect.

  I have just taken the DeckLink card to the retailer who tried it out in a G5 and it output perfectly to a JVC CRT High res monitor on an HD-SDI connector.

  This all seems to indicate that the monitor is somehow at fault but there is still the issue that it works fine when fed from the JH3 player. I’m really hoping someone on this board has come across and solved this problem before as I am starting to go a little bit cuckoo over it! 🙂

  During capture, if “capture card supports high quality video playthrough” (or whatever it actually says) is selected in the settings for the capture, the video plays from the JH3, through the DL and out to the monitor with no problems at all. Apparently this must use some different internal mode or something, totally bypassing the main DL electronics and simply doubling the input signal onto the output connector.
