I am sorry if this has been gone over before – I’m not frequent to this forum but I really need some help.

I want to edit uncompressed video that I shoot with my Z1U.

I think I have everything in place – a Terabyte internal RAID of SATA drives, a Decklink HD Plus card, a Multibridge, Final Cut Studio, and a Sony HDV deck.

The deck has component out so the only obvious way to capture uncompressed is through analog component. This sucks because if I ever have to recapture, timecodes will not match. But I can live with that for now.

I am able to capture and edit the uncompressed video with this setup but my Dual 2.5 is not as responsive with the footage as I thought it would be.

What are the best capture settings? I’m using uncontrollable device and have tried all flavors of Black magic 1080i capture presets and still the footage stutters after a few seconds of playback.

I would love it if someone would run through all the settings (FCP’s Easy Setup as well as which Black Magic capture settings) to use.

A plate of delicious DVideography “Thank You” cookies will be shipped to the most helpful soul.

    Thanks in advance.

    Merry Chrismas Dave,

It sounds to me like you may have a disk array issue, like its not fast enough to caputre the Uncompressed HD.

Perhaps try a Blackmagic 1080 easy set up to Jpeg or DVC pro HD and see if the disks will keep up.

On the camera control and timecode thing, you may get lucky and be able to capture your video via the Decklink card, but control the camera via Firewire.

Worth a try, hope this helps?

    All the best, Peter.
