Is there a way to make this happen?

I’m in the process of setting up one of our editing bays for 5.1 monitoring. Monitoring 5.1 on a Final Cut timeline will be a breeze thanks to the Multibridge we have. I’ll be able to loop 6 channels of AES through our DA88 deck which then gives us 6 analog channels for the self-powered speakers.

However, I’d like to be able to monitor a Dolby Digital or DTS encoded DVD.

I could buy a decoder box, but then I wouldn’t be able to monitor 5.1 from Final Cut without some eloborate swtiching mechanism or a very large mixer (which I don’t need another one of).

Instead, can 5.1 DVDs be played back on the Mac via software which decodes the Dolby or DTS and then spits out 6 channels across the Decklink’s SDI embedded audio? Is there a way to set up the Apple DVD Player or the VLC player to do this?
