  Panasonic BT-LH1700W

  Anyone used this display?

  What are the colours like compared to a CRT?

  Can you colour grade with it?

  I’m looking at replacing my CRT and this looks like a good option at the price point.

  I don’t know anyone that has seen this monitor in person, and most companies like B+H Photo say “accepting orders”, which means that it probably is not shipping yet. With that said, if this monitor is the worst piece of crap in the world, it ALLEGEDLY has a waveform monitor built into it, and at under $3000, this will be the cheapest HD waveform monitor on the market – so it’s worth it just for that (but yes, 17″ 16×9 is a SMALL monitor).

  With that said, it’s the same analogy with the Blackmagic Multibridge Studio, with it’s built in tri level sync generator – all for $3495 retail, makes this tied with the cheapest tri level sync gen manufactured. So add this to all the other amazing stuff this box will do for an FCP system – and it’s a no brainer.

  I am sure that we will all see BOTH of these items in countless FCP systems. (Even if the LH1700 isn’t so great).

  My understanding is that they do not recommend it for that. I saw that somewhere.

  Hi Bob,
  I’ve got a couple of these monitors; they make terrific client monitors on the set, they’re bright and can be viewed from pretty severe angles.

  Unfortunately, the built-in Waveform Monitor is no substitute for a dedicated unit; the scale is just a larger version of the one in the little 8.4 inch HD LCD, fine for a shooter’s reference, but not for engineering.

  I do recommend the units; everyone who’s seen them loves the picture.

  I saw one at DV Expo East. It was great. Awesome price for what you get. Image quality was very good as well. Comes with all the connections that you would need standard. No upgrade cards needed like the Sony unit does.

  The Panasonic tech guys were just raving about it. Like it was a brand new baby or something.
