I have been having an ongoing issue with FCP4 and now FCP5 I don’t know if it is my system
which use to work fine with my DL Pro card, but started being a problem when I went to the Extreme card
and now with the HD Pro single link card.

    Here’s whats happening:

I can lay down one video track say 6 minutes long and make HARD cuts all I want and playback is very smooth
But as soon as I add One filter or transition or just create a fade, my playback gets jerky at best
Maybe I need refreshing on what my preferances should be.

In user preferances I’m set to RT /safe render /play : Filters, Frames, motion blur . and I still have the Jerky playback after rendering.

    my system

    Tiger
    FCP 5.0.1
    BMD drivers 5.0
    Decklink HD Pro single
    Huge 320U 1.2 TB (at 320M/’S)

    Hi Dane,

Firstly, please update to Final Cut Pro HD 5.0.2 as it solved a number of jerky playback problems. Secondly please update to Mac OS X 10.4.2 if you have not already done so. QuickTime should be v7.0.1 or newer. QT v7.0.3 is probably OK but I haven’t had it long enough to be sure yet. DeckLink drivers should be updated to v5.1.1.

Please ensure that you use the Blackmagic easy setups and avoid the temptation to modify them other than toggling device control between Sony or Panasonic as appropriate for your deck.

Next, check that the Effect Handling is set to Final Cut Pro which you need for RT Extreme effects. Now that we’re using the Apple codecs in almost all cases, effect handling must be set to Final Cut Pro HD and NOT Blackmagic.

If you are still encountering playback problems, you could go to the RT popup menu and ensure that it is set to
