    1.
the quicktime 7 movie “info window” tells me that my movies are using “blackmagic” codec, but in reality they are “DV-PAL”. FinalCut shows the correct “DV-PAL” codec for that move, but Quicktime shows “blackmagic” codec for that same movie. It does only affect “DV-PAL” movies, Sorenson and others are described correctly in the movie info window.

    2.
for my DV-PAL Movies the QT 7 Movie “info window” shows datarates of 28’802.82 KBits/s ???? did Apple switch from “Kbyte/s” to “Kbits/s” ???
Movies with Decklink 8Bit (SD 720×576, 25fps) are marked with 165’929.82 KBits/s ???? is this normal? under QuickTime 6.5 it showed the Datarate in MB/s

I recently upgraded my G4 MDD to tiger, but I did a complete clean install, erased the disk ans installed everything (osx, fcp studio & decklink) from original cd/dvd.

    anybody any idea?

    PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1.42, 2GB RAM / OSX 10.4.2 / QuickTime 7.0.1 / Decklink 5.0 Driver / FCP Studio V 5.02 / Decklink Extreme

    Hi Noe,

[Noe Marti] “the quicktime 7 movie “info window” tells me that my movies are using “blackmagic” codec, but in reality they are “DV-PAL”.”

Can you please quit out of all applications and then go to /Library/QuickTime and move any of the Blackmagic compoents to your desktop. Then open the DV-PAL movie and let me know what it says in the Movie Info window.

If the reference to Blackmagic has disappeared, then I will log a bug with Apple as QuickTime should not be identifying the file as Blackmagic.

I’m not sure. Does this change when you remove the Blackmagic components?

When you are finished testing, quit all applications and reinstate the Blackmagic components.

Hi Luke, thanks for taking the time 🙂

after removing the BMD components, QT “Movie Info” shows the correct “DV_PAL” settings – as soon as I reinstall them the wrong Info has come again. Removing the BMD components did not affect the info about the datarate, they are still 28’802.82 KBits/s.

you can log a bug with apple :-I

Yes, I find it annoying myself. It’s a nod to the networked world we now live in I think. Divide by 8

    Hi Noe,

Thank you for running these tests and reporting your results. Can you tell me the source of your DV material, eg a Firewire DV capture from a DV camera or a SDI capture with the DeckLink card using the Blackmagic DV easy setup?

I’m looking at some PAL DV clips here which do not show the word Blackmagic so I’m trying to work out why there is a difference.
