  Multibridge question

  We have a BMD Multibridge and HDW2000/1 HD deck and analog BetaSP deck and Decklink HD.

  We looked at the SDI inputs at NAB and incorrectly assumed (my bad, should have asked) that the inputs were an A/B sort of thing. This would allow us to go in and out of the decklink card in the G5 and use the “B” i/o for the HD deck and use the analog I/Os for the Beta deck.

  It seems as though the “A” & “B” SDI connections were designed to allow the input and output of Sony Dual Link SR material.

  Now, because only a tiny percentage of the production world will ever operate with SR series machines, I had asked a BMD tech recently about converting the second I/O to allow a second path for a discrete channel of work flow.

  I know that there a lot of us out here with a digital deck sitting next to an analog deck. Will there be a possibility of a change in the Multibridge?

  Hi Steve,

  We’ve received a few requests to make the ports switchable and, given a spare moment, we will see if we can implement that as it would be a nice feature to include. At the moment the Multibridge engineers are working on the next generation of firmware and software to add support for the new Multibridge models. However once they are shipping there should be a common software platform running on all Multibridges and we will see if they can make the ports switchable. We won’t know until we try but I remain optimistic that it can be done in the existing Multibridge.
