August 6, 2005 at 3:11 amyeah, sell it on ebay and buy your HD card. not trying to be a wise alec but bmd prices are very reasonable, and the products pay for themselves pretty quickly, and you can still get some cash out of it by selling it for 50% of what you paid for it and apply that to your next purchase. it’s not like you dropped 30k on an avid or something ; )

We don’t have a general upgrade path for DeckLink cards as we try to keep the price down from the outset so that they are affordable for everyone. As Paul mentioned, there is quite a healthy second-hand market for DeckLink cards but many DeckLink owners keep them in their older computer and disk array as it is nice to have a second system for SD work and then use a newer system for HD work. Sometimes it is more valuable to keep the old system running than selling it off and it just depends on your needs.

August 8, 2005 at 6:17 amThanks for the reply Luke. I guess someone gave me the wrong information when they said you guys had an upgrade path. I just bought my Extreme card less than two-weeks ago and I really like it a lot, however I probably should bought the HD card. I guess I’ll just suffer for a while longer in SD land.
All the best,

If you’ve only had the card for 2 weeks, and now realize that it doesn’t suit your purposes, your reseller might consider taking it back and selling the DeckLink HD Pro for the price difference. There hasn’t been any change in the cost of cards so this could be easier now than at a time when there has been a price change. Resellers don’t have to take cards back but often they will within a week or two of the sale if you realize that the card is not appropriate.
