    Hi all,

I have been reading about Decklink cards for a couple of months now and still a little confused. I have been using AE Pro, PP 1.5 and Combustion for some time now and have been content with my Canopus capture card for I/O purposes and viewing on my external Sony and JVC monitors. Now, I want to upgrade but am really confused.

My Sony monitor has two composite I/Os and the JVC has component I/Os. Neither one is an SDI monitor but the entry level Decklink card has 3 BNC I/Os (one SDI in and 2 SDI outs). Again, since my monitors are not SDI will this card work well with me as a capture and output card? I am using a Sony DSR-25 as my playback/record to device. I would rather capture and record to this deck through something other than an IEEE 1394 slot. Thanks in advance. I greatly appreciate any and all clarification anyone can provide.

The other inputs/outputs of the DSR-25 is only composite. I’d choose DV over composite any day.
Why would you replace the canopus ? I don’t have the impression you have any SDI device, so the regular DeckLink isn’t for you. Maybe the DeckLink SP might be a solution since it has composite inputs/outputs.

    Hi there,

as yves said there is not need reallyu to move to a decklink card
with you existing gear, if you ever need to capture digi or beta sp
then you can’t go wrong with either a decklink sp or Pro, although
i would recomend The Extreme card.

But until then be happy with your system.

Thanks for the information guys. This is the kind of stuff I needed to know. I just wanted to make certain I was capturing and recording the best possible way. Once I make the move to digibeta then I will look at the decklink stuff again. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
