Apple Uncompressed 10bit vs BM 10bit
We have 6 Final Cut Pro Stations with decklink cards and have tried to stick with the Blackmagic 10bit codec instead of the Apple 10bit which the easy set-ups default to. There are several reasons for this, for one thing we have a couple of PC’s around so we don’t need to transcode (am I right in thinking there still isn’t any PC version of the Apple Uncompressed 10bit? Kind of takes the fun out of using an “open” standard like QT. Also in tests we had colour shifts using the apple codec, also in my opinion (and others) it is just not as good as the BM codec.
Are we going to be able to stick with the Blackmagic codec or will we eventually have to switch to the apple codec?
Anyone else have any thoughts on this? After all since the Voodoo days the codec has always been one of the main selling points, I would always rather favor quality over realtime effects if given the choice.
