  AE seems to auto-save at random

  AE CS3 / OSX10.4.11 / G5 dual/quad

  Can’t figure it out. AE appears to auto-save with a mind of it’s own.

  I had auto-save set for 20 minutes, but (now) even when it’s off,
  it still seems to save every 4 or 5 minutes.

  For what it’s worth, this AE project is quite large by now (12 comps/ c. 250 layers each)

  Anybody got an idea? This is slowing me down.

  Could it be that you’ve inadvertently clicked on the “Random UI Behavior” button?

  Nah – just kidding! Perhaps a Prefs trash exercise is in order. I would also look at pre-rendering heavy layers and pre-comps to lighten the ‘final comp’.

  Yes… I “boil things down” as best I can. PC’s for sure, and segment video lay-offs as well.

  None the less…

  AE/CS3 seems to want to “auto-save” at random increments.

  I had ‘er set at 20 minutes… so naturally I am gauging my “minutes in front of monitor”
  vs.
  “minutes of my life I can never buy back”.

  Seems like them “20 minutes” are occuring all to often.

  Perhaps I need a vacation?

  FWIW, I have my auto-save on OFF all the time. I have a preference for Incremental Saves as this is done as and when I’m comfortable with the progress that I’ve made within a session. The decision is coupled with the fact that I occasionally partake with a humble rendition of Revert to Saved project – when I’ve uncannily had too much coffee spiced with an alcoholic beverage.

  A vacation is always good my friend, especially so, when the girlfriend or wife is away.
