Expression for file name
Hey guys,
simple question, hopefuly I get a quick answer.I need an expression that copies the current file name and displays it as text.
The closer I could get was:
-Text layer
-Open the “source text” stopwatch and adding
thisComp.namebut its not what I need… is there any similar expression for file name instead of the comp name??

when you say file name, do you want the name of the open after effects project, or the name of a file within the comp?

I want the name of the open after effects project.
Im constantly doing incremental saves so I want the text layer to reflect those changes automatically with an expression.Is it possible?
Just like I said before… something like
thisFile.name but that actually exists 😛 -
i don’t think that expressions can access information like that… at least i don’t know of any project object that could be used to get that with expressions, though you might try searching/posting in the expressions forum.
you can get that info with a script like this one:
https://aescripts.com/project-name-stamp-info-stamp/
you would need to run the script each time prior to rendering to get the updated project name.

i’m not sure if this would help you, but one easy thing that you can do is have ae include the project name in the rendered file’s name automatically.
you can set that up in the render queue by clicking the little triangle between ‘output to’ and the file name. there are several built in options and you can customize them to include a lot of other data if needed.
