  • After Effects CS5.5 OpenGL Version for nVidia Quadro 4000 Graphic Card

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has Adobe After Effects CS 5 or 5.5 with nVidia Quadro 4000 graphic card. I have a not very pleasant surprise that my Mac Pro 3,1 under Snow Leopard shows OpenGL 2.1 for After Effects preview acceleration and under Windows 7 64 bit in bootcamp shows 3.0. nVidia claims this graphic card is OpenGL 4.1 compatible. So is it some sort of config issue for my particular computer / OS / etc. or the nature of After Effects. If other people get the same OpenGL version as mine then at least I know I don’t have a specific problem and it is inherent to the capability of Mac (Open GL 2.1) and After Effects (OpenGL 3.0).

By the way, the OpenGL Extension Viewer shows the same 2.1 for Snow Leopard but it picks up 4.1 under Windows 7 x64. So I imagine part of the issue is the Mac operating system but under Windows, I’m wondering if AE is lacking in that department and perhaps other GFX / 3D / etc. software may take advantage of full 4.1 OpenGL capability.

    Any comment?

    Thanks.

OpenGL has always been an issue with After Effects. I for one would like to see it working for previews as well as rendering. For now though, I keep it off for everything.
