I’m trying to simulate zoom in and out via keyframe scaling multiple .ai layers. As the layers scale across the keyframes, they lose the desired spatial relationship to another. I have some idea on how to manually control for this, but I sense it will be very time-consuming. Any good ideas for approaches to or tools for this?

Not sure exactly what you want to achieve but have you tried parenting the layers to a null and scaling the null?

you could also try bringing that comp into another comp and do the scaling to the nested comp, or you could try creating an adjustment layer and then applying the transform effect and animate its scale property….

Is there a reason why you need to do this in 2D? If you make your layers 3D and animate a camera through the scene, AE will keep all the proper spatial relationships for you.
