  AE won’t start: after effects error: couldn’t find main entry point for AEDriver.plugin

  Help!
  out of the blue AE (cs3 pro mac pcc) doesn’t want to open. i get a series of messages which i’ve copied below. i don’t think i’ve changed anything on the computer since i last opened AE. no new plugins no system update.
  can anyone help me? what should i do?
  i’m on a PowerPC G5 with osx 10.4.11

  i’m not entirely sure what you mean by ‘fixing permissions’ so probably never or a long time ago!

  go to applications/utilities and open an app called disk utility.

  from there, select your main drive in the left side column and then click the button for repair permissions.

  after that, you might just go ahead and click repair disk too, just to see if there are any disk errors.

  thanks.
  does this mean i’ll be asked to reinstall programs or look out all my dvds and serials?
  i’ve just moved and most of that stuff is in hidden away in big boxes in my attic until i get my shelves etc built. looking them out would be very tedious!

  nope, nothing like that. it just goes through and corrects permissions for files based on what i’ll call a permission database (it may be somewhat different than that, but that’s the gist).

  it may take a good 10 minutes to run it, though. and it is generally recommended to repair permissions after system installs and updates, and i might run it after any large software install, like an adobe suite.
