  HD 50i graphic flickers footage is fine !!

  Hi There,

  I’m in a bit of quandary..

  I’ve been given some footage which is HD50i, I’ve tracked it.. put a single .tga on top of it.. applied the track to the tga. so that it matches the footage.. I’ve also added a few lens flares and shadows..

  It looks great on my computer monitor.. however when I give it to the editor.. The background footage is fine.. but the additional graphics I have added are flickering..

  I can’t really understand why it would do this.. and even worse.. I can’t see the problem.. so am finding it very difficult to cure it.

  The editor reckons it has nothing to do with the way he is importing it.. I’m just rendering it out as a lossless Quicktime.

  Am I missing something obvious.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

  Are you rendering your graphics interlaced?

  Dave..

  I wish I knew.. as I said… I can’t see any fault at all.. I’m at home.. my editor is twenty miles away.. he says that the background footage is playing fine.. but the additional graphics I have added are flickering. the footage moves every frame.. the graphic moves everyother..

  Ted.. excuse my ignorance.. but how do I know if I am rendering out interlaced.. I’m not rendering out in fields if that is what you mean.

  50i stands for interlaced footage (50 interlaced= 25 fps)
  If you do not interpret your footage de-interlacing it, then even if you render progressive (frames) your fields will still show. It seems like a case of interlaced background and progressive gfx. Just use a 50i setup for your project and render out at 50i and you should be fine.

  OK.. I solved the problem… I got into work super early this morning so at least I could see it on an output monitor to work out what the problem was..

  The footage I imported was interlaced.. So I interpret it to upper fields first…

  Made everything else.. even a still jpg frame (which also jittered) upper frame..

  then rendered out with fields.. with upper frame..

  smooth animation…

  Thanks for all your help.. sorry if I was a bit vague.. but I’ve been working long hours on this.. and then finally when I think it’s ok to deliver.. I get thrown a curve ball…
