i am trying to figure out a way to be able to show just one layer from a pre-composed comp. for example lets say there are 5 different hand pictures (with alphas) in a precomp, i seek a method to change the hand picture from pic 3 to pic 5 without entering the pre-comp, changing opacities constantly.

    what do you think?

One way is to set up (within the pre-comp) the opacity to and from, then in the main comp, adjust the time remapping. For instance, in the pre-comp, frame 1 is photo 1; frame 2, photo 2, etc. Then in the main comp, with time remapping applied, just call on the associated keyframe desired.

    Hope this helps

Tim is right, you can control opacity with an expression as well.

    I’ve made an example here:

    1822_opacityandframe.aep.zip

I put expression control sliders on a Null so the control is in one location, just keyframe the values and you’re set.

I think you should put each of the layers within the existing precomp into their own respective precomps.
