  animating at 24fps delivering job at 59.94

  Hey guys,

  Sorry to bring up a subject that’s been beaten to death here on the forums.

  But I need some help here with the proper way to convert a 1080 24fps animation for a client to 59.94 quicktime in After Effects.

  I know that:

  1. You import/intepret the 24fps animation as 23.98 in AfterFX
  2. Render that out with fields for proper 29.97fps in the output module.

  What I’m unsure about is the next step to 59.94.
  Do i bring in the 29.97 footage and interpret this differently to render out 59.94? Or do i just drop this 29.97 footage into a comp that is 59.94 and render this out?

  Pleasse help. Much appreciated to all.

  if there’s no audio, just interpret as 23.976, drop into make new comp icon, render out with fields 3:2 pulldown cadences.

  this is how I would do it if there’s synced up audio.

  –mac
  if you have mac’s compressor, conform to 23.976fps. It will both change the audio and the video and stay in sync. then in AE, interpret as 23.976 and drop into make new comp icon. render out with fields 3:2 pulldown cadences.

  –pc
  if you have pc, you can still sync up in AE without having to use separate audio software. interpret as 24fps. drop into make new comp icon.
  right click timestretch 100.1001001

  Now from the Layer Menu select Enable Time Remapping. This last step is very important as it triggers After Effects to use a very high quality audio re-sampling technique

  Precomp it and place it into a 23.976 comp. render out with fields 3:2 pulldown cadences.

  Hey Chris.

  Thanks for the response. I just needed re-assurance on this.
  These HD standards are insane. I thought HD was supposed to fix the standards confusion and not add to it.
  Dealing with PAL and NTSC was bad enough.

  The whole 720p at 59.94 is really bizarre as it adds hold frames.
  I delivered a huge ESPNU package in 720p 59.94 in 2009.

  1080i 59.94 is really dumb in my opinion as it should just be called 1080i 29.97 Upper Fields first.

  Thanks Chris for the thorough response.
  Really appreciate it. I normally don’t deal with layoffs and final output.
  I just find all these standards really lame as HD was supposed to “solve” all of the issues with Standard Def standards.
