    What can I do if I want to shorten a layer-bar, but the edge is outside the compositions timeline? Until now I always have to move the whole layer-bar, that’s annoying…
    Is there a hotkey for it?

    yup.. just hit alt and [ for in….. alt and ] for out.

    and it would be option+[ or option+] in osx.

    you can also simply drag either end of the bar.

    The term for what you’re doing here is ‘trim’, by the way. Knowing that will help you to find more information.
