SD Cards not readable in High Sierra?
Hello all,
I’m trying to offload footage shot on a Black magic Pocket to my touchbar MacBook Pro on High Sierra and every time I put the card in the reader it says it’s not readable. I tried the Resolve install card that came with the camera and it mounts fine.
I offloaded the footage on my flatmates earlier MacBook Pro (2014/5 maybe?) Via the SD slot with no issues. Then I tried formatting the card on my laptop but it won’t let me erase it with Disk Utility. It fails every time.
Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated.

I’m having no problems reading SD cards with High Sierra but it’s odd that it worked on your friends Mac.
I would not attempt to format an SD card with your Mac. Either format it with your camera or use a utility like SD Card Formatter which is what I use.
If the card has a lock tab, make sure it is unlocked. It may have gotten moved a bit to one side or the other which is causing the format to fail.

No the lock tab hasn’t been moved, I double checked, also, I was able to offload on my friends computer.
I’ve tried formatting on the camera a couple of times but still no luck getting it to mount. I’ve done all the software updates it’s been bugging me to do and it still won’t read the card while my friends computer still reads it no problem.
Anyone got any others ideas?

According to this article: Blackmagic Design announces new disk formatting update for Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera that camera supports two formats, ExFAT and HFS+. You can select either format from the camera and apparently Blackmagic has no issues with formatting the card with your Mac and actually encourages formatting HFS+ for Mac users because you will get better performance.
Have you tried both formats? and also try formatting with your Mac (contrary to my original post).

Sorry you’re having having trouble.
I stuck a Sony SDXC 64 GB 95MB/s card I use with my Sony RX10 into my Macbook Air with High Sierra and it opened up with no problem. Actually it worked a little better — I didn’t have to use a workaround to open the Private folder. I usually use thisit with an MBP running OS 8.5 but had a little issue today.
Inserted 3 times, no dice, restarted the machine, got it to mount.
These machines are a little more klunky than we would like to imagine.

I’ve learned there is a feature of Resolve called Clone Tool for duplicating camera cards with a checksum.
